Wow! I have not posted in forever. Many things have changed in our lives.
Well, in May of 2010 Kenny and I renewed our wedding vows in a lovely outdoor ceremony. It was small and beautiful and helped us create some wonderful memories. Also in May, our beloved Vera passed away of complications of FIV. It was a dark time for us, but we made it through.
In June, we adopted a sweet little kitty girl named Megan. She has fit into our family like she was here all along. We still miss Vera, but Megan has helped us to heal.
In August, we discovered that we are expecting our first (human) child. In November, we were able to find out that the baby is a girl. We have decided to name her Brynnley and she is expected to arrive April 12th, though Mommy is praying for the end of March!
Kenny is also no longer in the Coast Guard. He has job offers from several places and is trying to make the best choice for the family. Until the decision is made, he is working with his father.

It's been a long time!!!
Wow! I did not realize how long it had been since I had updated this.
Kenny and I moved back to Illinois in August after a 30 day pit stop in Kentucky. Kenny is still in the Coast Guard and hating it as always. I am working for Head Start with 3-5 year olds. I would like to return to teaching middle school, but feel very blessed to have a job with the current economy and to work for a family-oriented organization like TCOC.
Kenny and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary in just a few months. We have decided to have a party of some type, but the details are still in the works. We are discussing the possiblity of starting a (human) family in the next year or two.
The kitties are doing well.
Vera has had a few hiccups in her recovery since her tumor was removed in 2008. Her allergies have pretty much cleared up, leading us to believe that they may have been caused in some way by the tumor. However, her thyroid problem has returned. For those that do not know, Vera had her thyroid removed in 2006. She is currently back on medication as her thyroid levels have begun to rise, though how this can happen without a thyroid is a mystery to me. Also, in May she began to lose her sight. We have been able to reverse it somewhat with high blood pressure meds, but she is still partially blind and is almost completely blind at night. We continue to care for her and visit our vet regularly.
Preston is healthy, happy, and heavy!!! He weighed in at 18 1/2 pounds at his last visit! The vet is unconcerned as he is very tall and has a large head size.
We are preparing to celebrate the upcoming marriages of a few of our friends this summer and cannot wait. Candy and Keith will be married in July and Justin and Lindsey in August. We are so happy for them.
Relations with Kenny's family are still poor at this point. I have stopped talking to them, and Kenny will only speak with his father; but that may be in jeopardy also. We have decided to cut the drama from our lives and since they seem to live for it and be at the root of much that is spread about us, it is a step that while needed, was very difficult. We hope that things will look up in the future, but are not going to put our lives on hold waiting for it to happen.

Lots of news!!!
So Vera is wonderful! Thank you to everyone who was thinking of us. Someone was listening!
So Vera had surgery to remove the mass in her abdomen last Friday. They removed 2/3 of her liver, her gallbladder, and a huge 1 1/2 pound tumor. The doctor gave it a 98% chance of being cancerous, but our little girl was in the 2%!! It was benign!!
Well, Vera was sent home last Sunday and was just not acting herself. We watched her carefully, and on Monday night, she was burning up with fever and had turned yellow. She was rushed back into the vet as an emergency and re-admitted to ICU. They did tests and started her on medications. She had an infection and a type of hepititis that is caused by liver trauma (not by a disease). She was also refusing to eat so they put a tube down her nose (she LOVED that!).
By Friday, she was meowing, trying to jump and run away from the nurses, and being an all around pain in the butt...in other words, time for her to come home! She was released Saturday morning. She is still on 3 medications (I am getting really good at prying her mouth open and squirting the medicine down her throat), but she is doing very well. She is not quite as active as she was before, but we understand that she has been through a lot in the last 2 weeks.

A Trying Day
So today has been a trying day for me. First, the kitties had a vet appointment. Pretty standard stuff; Vera for an allergy shot and Preston for an ear infection. No big deal. Well, because of all of Vera's health issues, she gets a physical at every visit. So today, the vet feels that something is not quite right in her abdomen, more specifically, her liver. Then comes x-rays and ultrasounds and now we have an appointment with a feline oncologist tomorrow. We are praying that it is nothing serious, but we are asking everyone to please pray for our baby. We will update the blog as soon as we hear anything.

Nothing Much
Well, nothing has really changed for us lately. My students are getting ready to take the state tests next week. Many of them are very nervous and are acting out because of it. These tests are a huge deal in Louisiana; if you don't pass them, you cannot go on to the next grade. No pressure!
Kenny is still doing what he does in the Coast Guard. Not much to report on that front either. He will be going to a school for 15 days, leaving sometime this month. He is supposed to be back by the 21st, which is the first day of my week-long spring break! Yay!
On a side note, my cousin, Michael, and his fiancee, Lisa, have broken up and the wedding (was to be July 6th) is cancelled. Not really sure what all happened. It's hard when you live far away. So, now I have a bridesmaid's dress that I will have to try and find some use for, not to mention all the wedding flowers that I had already made (all the bouquets and some corsages). If you know anyone that needs some flowers for something (they are Periwinkle hydrangeas and yellow sunflowers) lemme know.
Vera and Preston are doing well, meowing up a storm!
We are planning on visiting home sometime in late June/early July. If Kenny's schedule does not allow it, I will be coming alone. We'll keep everyone posted as we find out more information.

Gonna give this a shot!
So..I'm a shameless copycat and about 5 of my friends have started blogs, so I figured, why not? Well, we are pretty boring at the moment. My birthday is in 2 days and my students have state tests in 2 weeks, but other than that, boring. I'll try and post again after my birthday. Have a great weekend!!
